Pedro de la VEGA, O.S.H., figure au f. 134 &lt;i&gt;a&lt;/i&gt; l’estampe d’une gravure &lt;st1:legixlinks base="Codigo" id="30094" st="on"&gt;en&lt;/st1:legixlinks&gt; taille d’épargne (&lt;b&gt;fig. 24&lt;/b&gt;) représentant ce thème, laquelle est une copie très fidèle (de mêmes dimensions, 88x66 mm.) de la dite estampe présente pour la 1&lt;sup&gt;ère&lt;/sup&gt; fois dans l’atelier de Paulo Hurus &lt;st1:legixlinks base="Codigo" id="30094" st="on"&gt;en&lt;/st1:legixlinks&gt; 1494 (&lt;b&gt;fig. 23a&lt;/b&gt;).  &lt;p class="MsoNormal" style=""&gt;No meu artigo para as Actas do &lt;i&gt;IV Congresso Internacional de Cister em Portugal e na Galiza&lt;/i&gt;, realizado em Braga e Oseira nos dias 1, 2 e 3 de Outubro de 2009, dei a conhecer a descoberta da primeira estampagem até hoje encontrada de uma entalhadura representando uma Trindade trifacial com &lt;i&gt;scutum fidei&lt;/i&gt; rodeada pelo tetramorfo. Ela figura no livro da autoria de Andrés de ELI, intitulado &lt;i&gt;Tesoro de la Pasión&lt;/i&gt;, impresso em Saragoça, por Paulo Hurus, em 1494 (&lt;b&gt;fig. 23a&lt;/b&gt;) (88x66 mm.) &lt;span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 255);font-family:Arial;" &gt;(&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 255);font-family:Arial;font-size:78%;"  &gt;&lt;a href="http://lcweb2.loc.gov/cgi-bin/ampage?collId=rbc3&amp;amp;fileName=rbc0001_2004rosen0582page.db&amp;amp;recNum=12"&gt;http://lcweb2.loc.gov/cgi-bin/ampage?collId=rbc3&amp;amp;fileName=rbc0001_2004rosen0582page.db&amp;amp;recNum=12&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 255);font-family:Arial;" &gt;)&lt;/span&gt;. Essa entalhadura será reestampada (&lt;b&gt;fig. 23b&lt;/b&gt;), quando a oficina já está dirigida por Jorge Coci, na 1ª edição, em 1516, do &lt;i&gt;Flos Sanctorum&lt;/i&gt; renascentista&lt;sup&gt;1&lt;/sup&gt; (Fr. Gonzalo de OCAÑA, O.S.H., &lt;i&gt;La vida y pasión de nuestro señor Jesu Cristo, y las historias de las festividades de su santísima madre con las de los santos apóstoles, mártires, confesores, y vérgines&lt;/i&gt;, Zaragoza, Jorge Coci, 26 Abril 1516, [I], f. 90 &lt;i&gt;a&lt;/i&gt;),&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style=""&gt; mas será substituída por outra (&lt;b&gt;fig. 26&lt;/b&gt;) na 2ª edição desse livro, em 1521 (Fr. Pedro de la VEGA O.S.H., &lt;i&gt;Flos sanctorum&lt;/i&gt;, Zaragoza, Jorge Coci, 25 Set. 1521 (Iª parte), f. 109), a qual será depois reimpressa em todas as edições saragoçanas desta obra, pelo menos até à edição de 1548, estampa esta de dimensões bastante mais pequenas (63x41 mm.).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p class="MsoNormal" style=""&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;o:p&gt;&lt;/o:p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;u1:p&gt;&lt;/u1:p&gt;  &lt;p class="MsoNormal" style=""&gt;Contudo, na edição que deste &lt;i&gt;Flos Sanctorum&lt;/i&gt; renascentista se faz em Sevilha, na oficina de Juan Cromberger, em 1540, intitulada &lt;i&gt;Libro que es llamado vida de Jesu christo y de sus sanctos&lt;/i&gt;, e atribuída a Fr. Pedro de la VEGA, O.S.H., no f. 134 &lt;i&gt;a&lt;/i&gt; figura a estampagem de uma entalhadura (&lt;b&gt;fig. 24&lt;/b&gt;) representando este tema, que é cópia muito fiel (das mesmas dimensões, 88x66 mm.) da referida estampa aparecida pela 1ª vez na oficina de Paulo Hurus em 1494 (&lt;b&gt;fig. 23a&lt;/b&gt;). Ela figura no livro da autoria de Andrés de ELI, intitulado &lt;i&gt;Tesoro de la Pasión&lt;/i&gt;, impresso em Saragoça, por Paulo Hurus, em 2 Out. 1494 (88x66 mm.).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Fr. Os outros exemplos, encontrados em livros manuscritos, foram datados dos inícios do século XII.&lt;br /&gt;Tentarei propor, de forma muito breve, uma hipótese que explica o surgimento deste tipo iconográfico, partindo do exemplar inglês. Trata-se de uma explicação muito pessoal, diferente da habitualmente proposta.&lt;br /&gt;Esta primeira representação do tipo chamado &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Gnadenstuhl&lt;/span&gt; parece-me estar relacionada com a liturgia do Domingo de Ramos. Na Inglaterra, antes de la reforma dos Tudor, venerava-se de forma solene, neste dia, a cruz do &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Rood-screen&lt;/span&gt;. Esta estava por vezes pintada no arco triunfal da igreja, como é o caso da igreja [St Agnes] de Cawston também em Norfolk. O véu, que cobria a cruz desde o princípio da Quaresma, era afastado por meio de roldanas e toda a paróquia se ajoelhava, enquanto se cantava o hino “Ave Rex Noster”, onde se dizia: “Em verdade tu és a vítima salvadora que o Pai enviou ao mundo”. Parece-me estar aqui a origem desta representação, a qual pode derivar do ponto de vista formal da representação do tipo &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Paternitas&lt;/span&gt;, tal como se pode ver numa iluminura do Saltério anglo-saxão, Códex Harley 603, da British Library, do século X-XI , na qual o Pai abraça o Filho, representado como Menino. Esta iluminura tem muitas afinidades estilísticas com o nosso fresco de Houghton-on-the-Hill. Mas mais próximas do tipo Trono de Graça são as Paternitas esculpidas nos pórticos espanhóis, uma vez que nelas o Menino tem os braços abertos em forma de cruz.&lt;br /&gt;Na plataforma do &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Rood-screen&lt;/span&gt; costumava cantar-se no Domingo de Ramos o evangelho da Paixão, precisamente por baixo da cruz. Não é de admirar, por isso, se o mesmo tipo de representação da Trindade aparece num Evangeliário, conservado na Bibliothèque municipale de Perpignan, na Catalunha francesa, com desenhos de página inteira. Este Evangeliario deve provir da abadia de S. Miguel de Cuixà. A referida imagem encontra-se no verso de um fólio em cujo lado recto está representada uma &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Majestas Domini&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;A representação mais antiga deste tipo iconográfico em Portugal, que é o mais difundido, é uma escultura em pedra de Ançã, do século XIV, proveniente do Convento dos Frades Pregadores (dominicanos) de Évora, actualmente no Museu de Évora, Inv. 1737 (138 x 42 x 33 cm.). Diogo do Rosário O.P., 'Flos Sanctorum'</title><content type='html'>A segunda edição do &lt;em&gt;Flos Sanctorum&lt;/em&gt; de Fr. Diogo do Rosário sairá da oficina de António de Mariz, (...) sediada (...) em Coimbra. O rosto da IIª Parte desta edição tem semelhanças com as portadas do Missal de Valência (&lt;em&gt;Missale Valentinum&lt;/em&gt;), impresso em Veneza, por Luca Antonio de Guinta, em 1509 [1]. Desta segunda edição do &lt;em&gt;Flos Sanctorum&lt;/em&gt; de Fr. Diogo do Rosário descobri três impressões diferentes nas minhas pesquisas, às quais chamei A, A bis e B [2].&lt;br /&gt;Anselmo [3] descreve a portada da impressão B como: “port[ada] que na parte sup[erior] tem a fig[ura] de Cristo Salvador (...)”&lt;br /&gt;[...] &lt;div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oQi1zWegfz0/Ry71mmSXsAI/AAAAAAAAAII/iNB-J6pppgI/s1600-h/Hs1577B2Pars.JPG"&gt;&lt;img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5129307069083004930" style="" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oQi1zWegfz0/Ry71mmSXsAI/AAAAAAAAAII/iNB-J6pppgI/s400/Hs1577B2Pars.JPG" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A descrição feita por Anselmo da parte superior, ou cabecel, desta portada, que transcrevemos acima, é incompleta e apressada, pelo que resulta, quanto à identificação iconográfica, incorrecta. No que diz respeito à figura central, trata-se de uma descrição rápida. Dentro de um frontão curvo, no centro do tímpano, está representado sim Deus Pai na figura de &lt;em&gt;Cristo em majestade&lt;/em&gt; – identificada por Anselmo como “a fig[ura] de Cristo Salvador” –, ladeado por dois anjos em atitude de adoração, as mãos postas, tratando-se com toda a probabilidade de dois dos três arcanjos (Miguel e Rafael). À esquerda do Pai, desce em voo picado a Pomba que representa o Espírito Santo. Nos pilares ou colunas que sustentariam este frontão deveriam estar representados (...): à nossa esquerda o arcanjo São Gabriel (o terceiro que falta) saudando a Virgem Santa Maria, que estaria figurada na pilastra da nossa direita, sobre ela descendo a Pomba do Espírito Santo que está no tímpano, incarnando no seio da Virgem o Verbo de Deus. O exterior do arco está ornado com a inscrição “.AD LAVDEM. ET. GLORIAM. SANCTISSIME. TRINITATIS.”, o que nos indica estarmos na presença da representação da Santíssima Trindade, o que corrobora a identificação que proponho. A mesma inscrição aparece já, neste caso por baixo da figura do Todo-Poderoso ladeado por dois anjos, no cabecel do frontispício [das duas partes da &lt;em&gt;Erudita in daviticos psalmos expositio&lt;/em&gt; &lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;[&lt;/span&gt;4&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;]&lt;/span&gt;], impresso em Alcalá de Henares, na oficina de Miguel Eguía, em 1524, o qual (...) é cópia fiel do impresso veneziano, executado na oficina de um membro da célebre família de impressores, os Giunti, que tinha outros membros instalados pela Europa, inclusive em Espanha. No impresso complutense faltam também, como no nosso caso, as colunas que sustentariam primitivamente o frontão, notando-se todavia a parte superior dos capitéis, semelhante à que figura nos exemplares impressos em Valência [5]. Nestes frontispícios valencianos só falta a inscrição. Tanto no veneziano como nos espanhóis, falta a Pomba do Espírito Santo, que figura na entalhadura portuguesa. Vemos pois, como já Erwin Panofsky [6] tinha assinalado, que a figura de &lt;em&gt;Cristo em majestade&lt;/em&gt; pode representar a Divindade, e por isso ser a representação icónica da &lt;em&gt;Santíssima Trindade&lt;/em&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Extracto de&lt;/strong&gt;: Fr. De entre os vários tipos de imagens que pretendem visualizar esta verdade de fé, está esta, cujo tipo iconográfico se designa com o termo ‘Trono da graça’ (&lt;em&gt;Thronum Gratiae&lt;/em&gt;, &lt;em&gt;Gnadenstuhl&lt;/em&gt;; ou &lt;em&gt;Sedes Gratiae&lt;/em&gt;&lt;span style="color:#3333ff;"&gt;[1]&lt;/span&gt;. A presente estampa é demasiado pequena, pelo que o autor se limitou a esboçar somente as figuras. Só o olhar habituado pode descortinar pormenores nela representados. A figura que ocupa praticamente todo o quadro é a de um homem barbado, coroado com o que parece ser uma tiara. Está sentada e enverga uma túnica comprida, de modo que não se Lhe vêem os pés, e sobre ela uma capa pelos ombros, que desce até ao chão. Representa Deus-Pai. Este sustenta à Sua frente, com as mãos, uma cruz, na qual está cravado um Homem pelas mãos e pelos pés. Está nu, somente com um pano à volta dos quadris, encobrindo as partes pudibundas. A cabeça está caída para o nosso lado direito, pelo que se depreende que esteja morto. Parece ter colocada sobre ela uma coroa de espinhos. Colocada sobre a haste horizontal da cruz, vislumbra-se um letreiro com uma inscrição ininteligível, mas que é de supor ser o INRI. A semelhança com a imagem anteriormente descrita permite-nos apercebermo-nos destes pormenores, aqui pouco mais que esboçados. É seguramente a representação de Deus-Filho, Jesus Cristo, morto na cruz. A pomba, representando o Espírito Santo, pousa sobre o ombro esquerdo da figura do Pai.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;(...)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;A 'gravura' mais antiga impressa em Portugal que encontrámos representando a Santíssima Trindade é precisamente a nossa pequena estampa xilográfica, apresentando o tradicional tema do ‘Trono da Graça’, com a pomba do Espírito Santo pousada no ombro esquerdo do Ancião dos dias.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div align="left"&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Extracto de&lt;/strong&gt;: Fr. Domingos. Trata-se de uma escultura do século XIV, em pedra de Ançã, actualmente conservada no Museu de Évora, proveniente do extinto Convento de São Domingos dessa cidade.[1] Esta imagem é indicativa da devoção que na Ordem dos Pregadores se prestava à Trindade Santíssima. Na Ordem, numeravam-se os domingos comuns após as festas pascais como ‘domingos depois da oitava da Trindade’.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;color:#3333ff;"&gt;C’est aussi de cette ville qu’est issue la plus ancienne statue de la Trinité type &lt;em&gt;trône de grâce&lt;/em&gt; existant au Portugal. Il s’agit d’une sculpture du XIVème siècle, en pierre calcaire de Ançã, actuellement conservée au &lt;em&gt;Museu de Évora&lt;/em&gt; (Musée d’Évora) et originaire du, déjà éteint, &lt;em&gt;Convento de S. Domingos&lt;/em&gt; (Couvent de S. As outras figuras são de tamanho muito mais pequeno. Um crucifixo assenta sobre o regaço do Pai, como que mostrando que o sacrifício do Filho, eternamente gerado pelo Pai, provém das entranhas da misericórdia divina. “Deus amou tanto o mundo, que lhe deu o Seu Filho único”- diz Jesus a Nicodemos (Jo 3,16 a); e os primeiros cristãos cantavam: “Cristo Jesus, que era de condição divina, (...) obedeceu até à morte e morte de Cruz” (Fl 2, 5.6a.8b). A pombinha que figura o Espírito Santo, pousada sobre a cruz, ao centro da haste horizontal, inclina-se sobre a cabeça do Crucificado.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#3333ff;"&gt;Le Père est figuré sous les traits du Fils. Les autres figurations sont de taille beaucoup plus réduite. Un crucifix repose sur le giron du Père, comme s’il montrait que le sacrifice du Fils, éternellement engendré par le Père, provient des entrailles de la miséricorde divine. « Dieu a tant aimé le monde, qu’il lui a donné son Fils unique » - dit Jésus à Nicodème (Jn 3,16a) ; et les premiers chrétiens chantaient : « Christ Jésus, qui était de condition divine, (...) a obéit jusqu’à la mort et mort de croix » (Fl 2, 5.6a.8b).
